Dear reader,

BioExcel, the leading European Centre of Excellence for computational biomolecular research, has secured new funding from the Horizon Europe research programme to operate until the end of 2026.

BioExcel was established in 2015 and further supported in 2019 by the European H2020 programme to accelerate the development and usability of the most widely used European open-source software for computational biomolecular research: GROMACS for molecular dynamics simulations; HADDOCK for integrative docking; PMX for free energy calculation preparation, and ensure that this continues to achieve significant impact in the international HPC landscape.

In close collaboration between the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and participating member states, BioExcel will continue its mission to advance science and technology in the life sciences by:
  • Improving the performance of the software packages and ensure their efficient exploitation on major European HPC systems,
  • Improving the usability of the software and reproducibility of results by adopting standards and best practices and developing workflows for diverse computing environments,
  • Strengthen the engagement with academic and industrial user communities to guide software development and ensure scientific impact,
  • Provide state-of-the-art training and support to reduce the skills gap and develop the next generation of computational scientists, and
  • Conduct wide and effective dissemination of results to promote further use of the software and support services by the HPC Life Science community.
BioExcel encourages active collaborations with academic and industrial researchers and will promote the exploitation of HPC resources for biomolecular research across EU member and associated states through its Ambassador Program. Visit bioexcel.eu or contact info@bioexcel.eu for further information.
