BioExcel CoE Newsletter #13

Dear reader,

Your favorite monthly newsletter is here!

Before we list the highlights, we'd like to inform you how we deal with personal data. As you likely already know, this month came into effect the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which improves the transparency and data privacy rights of individuals. We at BioExcel are in support of the regulation, we handle your data responsibly and don't share it with third parties. You can find out more about our Privacy Policy here.

As we have always stated in the newsletters, you are receiving the mails either because you have subscribed for the BioExcel's newsletter through the website or you attended one of our webinar events. Since we are organizing regularly more of the latter, we thought you'd like to know about them. The registration forms for future ones will also request an explicit consent. You can, of course, always unsubscribe. But we hope you'd like to stay in touch!

Notable News

The BioExcel software engineering teams are passionate about creating effective, usable, high-performance software for life science. They have distilled that knowledge into guidelines useful for all teams developing software for science. Please check out our latest white paper on the topic.

Many of our applications and tools are being used by industry, in particular pharma. Through our consultancy and support activities we have begun series of site visits to companies to share expertise and understand the needs of users. Find out more about our visit at Janssen's site in Belgium.

Webinars

The last couple of months we had a great line up of webinars! We presented the latest developments in the MARTINI Force Field and a sleek new web server for structural/dynamical studies of DNA. Our industrial (and also academic of course) users might find very interesting and useful the methods and tools developed by BiKi Technology as well as successful early hit optimization by Novartis using HADDOCK among other tools. And if you haven't tried yet GROMACS 2018 (you should!), Mark's overview of its new features and capabilities may change your mind. Coming up next is a presentation by BioExcel's collaborators from the Pistoia Alliance's AbVance project.

Events

Basel is hosting the 2018 edition of the PASC conference. It is a great venue for computational scientists in all domains including Life Sciences. BioExcel is running a dedicated mini-symposium on "Advances and Automation for the Exascale Era" together with our partners from MolSSI. If you are coming to the conference, make sure to join us or drop by our exhibition booth.
Another important event is the BioExcel 2nd SIG Meeting: “Advanced Simulations for Biomolecular Research” during ECCB 2018. This edition is co-organized with our partners from Vi-SEEM VRE. We have a great lineup of speakers including a keynote by Jean-Pierre Changeux. Hurry up and send of your abstract for a poster. Some of them will be selected for flash talk presentations. And yes, we offer a number of travel bursaries (up to 500euro) to successful candidates! Don't miss the chance.
