Abstract

PDB-Dev is a prototype system for archiving structures of biological macromolecules determined using integrative modeling methods. Integrative modeling combines spatial restraints derived from a variety of biophysical techniques to determine the three dimensional structures of complex macromolecular assemblies. In addition, structures determined using integrative modeling can comprise of diverse spatio-temporal scales and conformational states, which pose unique challenges for data archiving. This talk will focus on recent developments including the creation of data standards and building the foundational infrastructure required for archiving integrative structures.

Presenters

Dr. Brinda Vallat is an Assistant Research Professor at the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She is a computational biologist with research interests in modeling and analysis of macromolecular structures. Her current work aims at building tools for data standardization, validation and archiving. Since 2015, she has been working with Drs. Helen Berman (Rutgers) and Andrej Sali (UCSF), to create the infrastructure for archiving integrative structures of biological macromolecules.

Dr. Benjamin Webb works in Prof. Andrej Sali’s laboratory at the University of California San Francisco as a Scientific Software Engineer. He is the lead developer of the lab’s Integrative Modeling Platform (IMP) software, which has been used to elucidate the structure of large macromolecular assemblies, most notably the Nuclear Pore Complex and the 26S proteasome.
