BioExcel NEWSLETTER
Dear reader,

Registration for next year's BioExcel Summer School on biomolecular simulations and the 2026 Spring School in Computational Chemistry are now open. You can also register for our first two webinars of 2026 which will take place in January. Read about how GROMACS is being implemented in the development of a high-throughput screening of biosynthetic materials capability and save the date for our 3rd BioExcel Conference on Advances in Biomolecular Simulations to be held next September. All this and more awaits you in this edition of the BioExcel Newsletter.

Wishing you happy holidays!

BioExcel Summer School 2026

Registration for the BioExcel Summer School 2026 is now open!
Set in a beautiful location this is a popular event primarily intended for PhD and post-doctoral researchers using or planning to use biomolecular modeling and simulation in their everyday research. Participants will learn to make use of the BioExcel flagship software and tools: GROMACS, HADDOCK, PMX and BioBB. The trainers, developers and/or experts in the use of the software will provide guidance and support. The Summer School provides a unique opportunity to for participants to engage with peers and grow their network, and will also be able to present their work during the scheduled poster session.
We can only accept participants from EuroHPC Joint Undertaking members.

Comp Chem Spring School 2026

Registration for the Spring School in Computational Chemistry 2026 is now open!
If you are interested in a comprehensive, tutorial-style, hands-on, introductory and intermediate-level treatment of the essential methods for molecular modelling and computational chemistry using modern supercomputers then this event is for you.

Webinar series

We have a great line-up of topics and speakers for our webinar series during the first half of 2026. Starting in January, Claudia Alleva and Cathrine Bergh will talk about "Mastering the Accelerated Weight Histogram method: from principles to practice". Also in January we will hear Matthieu Montes present on "VTX: from real-time high performance molecular structure and dynamics visualization to integrative modeling of massive molecular systems" . Later in the year we will have presentations on CodeRefinery and from our BioExcel Ambassador from Poland, Artur Góra (featured below).
Additional webinars are currently being scheduled so keep checking our website for more information!
Fast, flexible, Free, GROMACS

BioExcel software contributes to high-throughput screening of biosynthetic materials

GROMACS running on the LUMI supercomputer is being used in the development of a self-driving computational lab which combines biotechnology with physics-based models and AI tools to enable large-scale screening, discovery, and design. Read more about it here.

3rd BioExcel Conference on Advances in Biomolecular Simulations

Our big event of 2026, the 3rd BioExcel Conference on Advances in Biomolecular Simulations, will open for registration on 19 January 2026!
The event will take place in Brno, Czech Republic from 27 to 30 September 2026 and we already have a great line-up of confirmed speakers.
If you are interested in sponsoring the event we have a number of sponsorship packages available which will help you gain visibility and with the running of the event.

Ambassador Program workshop: February 2026 in Ljubljana, Slovenia

Registration closes tomorrow (20 December)!
The Adriatic edition of our Ambassador Program workshop will take place 11-12 February 2026 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The hands-on workshop is organised in collaboration with our colleagues at the National Competence Centres for HPC in Slovenia, Croatia and Italy and will cover the use of some of the core BioExcel software codes.

Ambassador of the month

We feature Artur Góra, our Ambassador representing Poland. Artur tells us about himself, his research interests and how he is working with BioExcel.

Request: please acknowledge BioExcel support

We are passionate about providing high quality support to users of our codes and have done so for many years. We have a small favour to ask those who have received this support and read this message.
Please take a moment to acknowledge the BioExcel Centre of Excellence as part of your dissemination through journals, presentations or other forms of communication. It would mean the world to us! Further, we would be delighted if you could drop us a quick email at team@bioexcel.eu to let us know how we have helped you. Thank you for your continued support!
